What should I do if I see "Could not add cellular plan for this carrier" when installing eSIM?
The most common reason for this error is that your device is carrier‑locked and cannot install eSIM plans from other providers. Please follow these steps:
Step 1: Check if your device is carrier‑locked
Open Settings → Go to General → Tap About
Scroll down to Carrier Lock Check the result:
- Shows No SIM restrictions → Your device is unlocked and can install eSIM normally
- Does not show this option or shows other restrictions → Your device is carrier‑locked
Step 2: Unlock your device
Contact your original carrier to request an unlock
Some carriers require: contract completion, no outstanding balance, and a valid account After the carrier unlocks your device, restart it,Try installing the eSIM again
Additional checks (if your device is unlocked but still shows the error)
- Make sure your eSIM QR code or activation code is not expired
- Check that your iOS version is up to date
- Restart your device and connect to a stable Wi‑Fi before trying again
